Transform Your Sales Funnel into a 'Dream Space'

BY JESSICA | 20 SEPT 24

Introduction: My Passion for Design (and Funnels)

So, confession time—I’ve always had a thing for interior decorating. There’s something magical about taking a blank, lifeless room and turning it into a beautiful, functional space that makes people want to stay and never leave. But here’s the kicker: I’ve realized that the same skills I use to design rooms can actually be applied to designing sales funnels. Crazy, right? But it’s true!

In both cases, you’re creating a space where people feel comfortable, connected, and ready to take action. Whether it’s adding the perfect throw pillows to a sofa or crafting the ideal call-to-action button on a landing page, both decorating and funnel-building require thought, creativity, and (just a bit of) style. Let’s dive into the basics of interior decorating—and along the way, I’ll show you how each principle can help you create a more engaging, more effective sales funnel.

1. Define Your Style: Set the Vibe for Your Room (or Funnel)

The first step in any decorating project is figuring out your style. Are you going for sleek and modern, warm and cozy, or maybe a touch of vintage flair? This sets the tone for everything that follows. The same thing happens in funnel-building—you need to define the vibe that will attract your dream customer. Think of your style as the guiding light for every design decision.

In home decor, we often look for inspiration in magazines, Pinterest boards, or even other people’s homes. When building a funnel, you can do the same thing: look at businesses or brands you admire. What resonates with you? Are their funnels clean and professional, or fun and playful? Figuring out the vibe you’re going for in both your home and your funnel is crucial because it dictates everything from color choices to layout.

Funnel Tip: Think about what kind of experience your dream customer is looking for. If your audience wants sophistication and luxury, your funnel should reflect that with sleek, elegant design elements. If they’re all about fun and creativity, go bold with colors and playful fonts!

2. Choose Your Color Scheme: Set the Mood

Now that you’ve got your style nailed down, it’s time to pick a color scheme. Colors can totally set the mood for a space, and they work the same magic in a funnel. Whether you want calm neutrals, bold statements, or soft pastels, choosing the right colors is key to creating the atmosphere you’re after. In interior decorating, a good rule of thumb is to pick three colors: a dominant, a secondary, and an accent.

For your funnel, this same rule applies. Your dominant color might be the background or your main branding color, the secondary could be used in headlines and buttons, and the accent color adds that final pop to highlight key areas. Just like you wouldn’t paint every wall in neon green, don’t overload your funnel with too many colors—it confuses the eye and overwhelms your audience.

Funnel Tip: Think about the emotional response your colors might evoke. Blues and greens tend to feel calming and trustworthy, while reds and oranges are energetic and action-driven. Pick a palette that resonates with your audience, and stick to it throughout your funnel for consistency.

3. Invest in Key Pieces: Get the Big Stuff Right

When you’re decorating a home, the first priority is getting the big items right: sofas, beds, dining tables. These are the anchors of each room, the pieces that everything else revolves around. You don’t want to cut corners on these key elements, because they’re the foundation of the space. In the world of funnels, it’s the same story.

Think of the header, content body, and footer as your funnel’s version of the sofa, bed, and dining table. These are the big pieces that need to be solid. The content body is the most flexible part, changing depending on what you’re offering (like switching out your seasonal throw pillows!). But your header and footer? Those should always be consistent and on point.

Funnel Tip: Invest in getting the core structure of your funnel right. Your headline (header), main offer or message (content body), and call-to-action (footer) should all be clearly defined and in alignment with your brand’s style. Nail these, and you’ll have a strong foundation to build on.

4. Arrange with Purpose: Placement is Everything

Once you’ve got your key pieces, it’s time to figure out where everything goes. In home design, placement is everything. You don’t just shove all the furniture against the walls and call it a day (please don’t do that!). Instead, you think about creating cozy conversation nooks, functional workspaces, and a balanced layout. In funnel-building, this is where you focus on arranging your elements—your images, text, buttons—with purpose.

A well-arranged funnel guides your visitors naturally from one section to the next. Just like how the layout of a room should flow, your funnel should feel intuitive. People should know exactly where to click without having to think too hard about it. Place buttons in obvious spots, use whitespace to let your content breathe, and keep the journey smooth from start to finish.

Funnel Tip: Avoid clutter! Just like in home design, too much stuff crammed together creates visual chaos. Space things out, use alignment to create a sense of order, and lead the eye naturally from top to bottom. If it feels disjointed, your audience will get lost.

5. Personalize Your Space: Add That Unique Touch

Now comes the fun part—personalization. This is where you sprinkle in those little details that make the space yours, like artwork, photos, or quirky collectibles. These items give a home its unique fingerprint, and they’re what makes it feel like, well, your space. In funnel-building, you also want to add personal touches that make your funnel stand out from the crowd.

In the digital world, this could mean adding personalized buttons, animations, or dynamic content that adjusts based on your customer’s behavior. It’s those little things—like a perfectly placed “Buy Now” button or a fun, unexpected image—that give your funnel life and personality.

Funnel Tip: Don’t be afraid to get creative! Add in subtle animations, fun copy, or movement that catches the user’s attention without being too overwhelming. Just like how personal touches make a house feel like a home, they make your funnel feel like a unique experience that customers will remember.

6. Maintaining the Space: Refreshing and Reviewing Your Funnel

Even the best-decorated homes need a little maintenance from time to time. You wouldn’t leave up your holiday decorations year-round (hopefully), and the same logic applies to your sales funnel. Your funnel needs regular reviewing and refreshing to stay relevant, functional, and on-brand.

Just as trends in home decor shift and change, so do the trends in digital marketing. Maybe it’s time for a new color scheme, a redesigned CTA button, or even a full layout overhaul. Regular updates keep your funnel feeling fresh and exciting, just like swapping out throw pillows or changing your wall art keeps a room feeling new.

Funnel Tip: Schedule regular audits of your funnel to see what’s working and what’s not. Are people dropping off at a certain point? Is your offer still aligned with your audience’s needs? Tweak, test, and refresh as needed to keep everything in top shape.

Your Funnel is a Living Space—So Design It Like One!

At the end of the day, building a sales funnel is a lot like decorating a room: you want it to be welcoming, functional, and uniquely yours. Just like a well-designed living room invites people to stay and enjoy the space, a well-designed funnel invites prospects to explore, engage, and ultimately, take action.

So, whether you’re choosing your “funnel color scheme” or arranging your elements for optimal flow, remember that your funnel is a space you’re creating for your dream customer. Put as much thought and care into it as you would your home, and the results will speak for themselves.

Happy decorating (and funnel-building)!
